The Sign

Georgia's Interstate, State and U.S. Highway shields follow national guidelines. These are set forth by the Federal Highway Administration in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). Cherokee County's signage should follow suit. The shield used for the County Route signs is the standard County Route marker recommended for use in all U.S. states and territories.

County Route signs are used extensively in other states such as Alabama and South Carolina and use the same blue five-sided shield with gold letters and numbers. The county name is printed above the number. Cherokee County's signs will not deviate from this pattern.

Signs such as these can be ordered from one of several manufacturers throughout the United States for minimal cost. They come in two sizes, 18"x24" and 24"x36". The larger size is intended for use on large overhead signs marking highway exits. A single 18x24 sign costs $25, the same as any other route marker, and in bulk can be discounted as much as 50% each. The County already has relationships with highway sign manufacturers to implement purchasing and installation of County Route marker shields.
